Scripts save locally on your device first — always. When you're online and signed in, they sync to your account so you can access them if you reinstall the app or get a new phone. You never lose work by going offline mid-session.
Yes. You can upload a PDF of your sides directly, or copy-paste the text. Loci detects character names automatically. After import, you'll see a review screen where you can fix any parsing errors before the script gets saved — no surprises.
If you're signed in, your scripts and practice history sync to your account — reinstall and they're back. Local-only scripts (imported without an account) live on-device only, so back those up by ensuring you're signed in before deleting.
The voices are neural text-to-speech — not a human, but significantly more natural than robotic TTS. They're good enough that you'll stop noticing after a few lines. You can choose from several voices and adjust playback speed. Audio is cached offline after the first play, so no internet needed after that.
Yes. Scripts are stored on your device and, when signed in, in your private account. We don't read your scripts, sell your data, or use script content to train any models. The voice feature sends line text to AWS Polly for audio synthesis — that's the only time script text leaves your device, and only for voice generation. Full details in our Privacy Policy.
Highlighting lets you read your lines again, which builds recognition — not recall. Loci forces retrieval: you have to produce the line before seeing it. The research behind spaced repetition and retrieval practice consistently shows active recall outperforms passive review by 2–3x for long-term retention. That's what every mode in Loci is built around.
Yes — monologues work well. Import the text, assign all lines to your character, and skip the scene-partner cue step. The Progressive Hiding and Forward Chain modes work especially well for solo speeches where you need to build from the beginning of the piece and add lines as you go.
